5 Roles of a Teacher
Do teachers only teach minds?
We know that once we send a child to a school, the teacher takes charge of everything concerning the child's growth. What are the 5 roles of a teacher?
1. Servant Leader
The teacher leads the students to reach their final destination- holistic competence. To surpass every challenge, the teacher gives himself including his time, efforts, sacrifices, resources, and many more to prepare things that will help in making dreams possible.
* Lesson plan
This serves as the map of the teaching-learning process.
* Instructional Materials
This may be compared to a soldier's gun with full tank bullets because it will allow you to finish the battle without worrying.
* Supplemental Learning Materials
This is your backup bullet, especially dealing with difficulties.
* Class Record
Monitoring is just one of the most important parts of education.
* Test Paper
See how effective all your plans and executions were. Also, a test allows students to show their mastery and how they become so inspired to study! Yay!
Why do we serve as leaders and as a servant at the same time?
We lead our students by sharing our knowledge, expertise, experiences, and testimonies. We become role models to them by demonstrating what is right. On the other hand, we serve as servants because we do our tasks all for the love of learning. As the old saying goes, life is all about giving service.
2. Cheerleader
The teachers are the second parents of a child. A child may feel and think negatively, which comes from the different factors that may affect his academic performance. As a teacher, a matured individual, he is to the rescue! A teacher gives praises to commend an excellent work of a student; A teacher gives encouragement to uplift the tired soul due to the hard work of a student; A teacher gives positive words to make students stay on fire.
3. Facilitator
Students love to learn when the process they have to go through is engaging, fun, and active. The teacher becomes a facilitator of learning after the hard work of plotting the lesson, preparing the learning materials, implementing what was planned, and assessing students' academic performance. To be a facilitator means you are ready to guide the students, to surpass every challenge with them, and to support them when it is very much needed.
4. One-call-away Mentor
Teachers are very busy but what makes it meaningful despite an exhausting schedule is the chance to help students by teaching them. As mentioned above, a teacher shares his knowledge and expertise. The teacher may serve as your chef, dressmaker, nurse, police, sports/health coach, grammarian, guidance counselor, and many more. Just imagine how a teacher can become an individual with more than ten talents.
Students facing difficulties in learning a particular lesson allow them to ask for help from their teachers. That is why teachers are forever learners because what you have are the things you can only give. One-call-away mentors are always upgrading!
5. Partner
In the African proverb, it says, "It takes a village to raise a child." The teachers are the parents' partners to a child's growth. The strong bond between the teacher and the parents contributes to the attainment of student's holistic competence.
